How many

OpenStudy (anonymous):

omg??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sourwing ...??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sourwing ^weird responses.. ; could you assist me with this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will create a stem and leaf plot of the branches at each stage so we can look at it better|dw:1403235175344:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

at stage 4- the # of branches increased by 2 at stage 5- the # of branches increased by 3 at stage 6- " " increased by 5 so I'm guessing : at stage 7- the # of branches will increase by 6 at stage 8- the # of branches increase by 7 at stage 9 -" " by 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it skipped the increase by 4 so we can not yet assume that it will increase by 1 each time but there is a pattern we must find

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^right, I got a bit excited thinking it was solved...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There is a pattern in our sequence can you figure it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Besides* what I stated above, no...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It looks as though I can not find remember the correct way to solve this sequence although I can tell you the pattern |dw:1403236168472:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In stage 1 we had 1 branch so to find the amount at stage 2 we add the previous number to our new number so 1 + 1 = 2 at stage 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

At stage 2 we have 2 branches now so to find stage 3 we add the previous branch to our new number 2+1 = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

At stage 3 we now have 3 branches so to find stage 4 we add the previous branches to our new number 3 +2 = 5 at stage 4 At stage 4 we now have 5 branches and to find stage 5 we add the previous branches to our new number 5 + 3 = 8 branches at stage 5 And so on..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh!!!!!!!! Now I see ! :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so stage 7 will be: 13 +8 = 21?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my bad, stage 8: 21+13=34

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

stage 9: 21+34= 55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Therefore, the only options left are A 58 and C 34 but I got 55-not 58! :/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Stage number of branches = (current stage-1 stage)+ (branches at current stage - 2 stages)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I must have assumed the incorrect sequence

OpenStudy (anonymous):

May i know all of the options given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure its 58?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, that's the answer choice given for A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is not working out in my side as I am performing the operation it seems as though it should have been 55 not 58

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So for sure it can't be 30 or 34?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It seems as though it can not be because the method I used as I looked at the branches as well as the leaves is the Fibonacci sequence, have you learned that sequence yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then, it must be 58! :) I did not master it unfortunately. Do you mind helping me check a problem? (It's way simpler than this one)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright I dont mind

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you :)
