Charlie, you are applying the same operations here, to solve this inequality for x, as you would if you were solving the equation 2x + 1 = 11 for x: Since we want to isolate x, we subtract 1 from both sides of this equation, to obtain 2x = 10. To further isolate x, we divide both sides of the equation by 2. Result? x=5. cormac's steps (above) lead to the correct inequality: x < 5. challenge: Graph this inequality. Note that x can only be less than 5, but y can have any value, positive or negative or zero.
