Brandon uses the following steps to construct a perpendicular line through a point C on a line segment. He first draws two arcs from point C intersecting the line segment in points A and B. The next four steps are listed below: Step 1: Using the same compass width draw two more arcs from point C, one above and the other below the line. Step 2: Without changing the compass width, draw two arcs from point B above and below the line segment. Step 3: Label the point of intersection of the arcs above the line segment as M and below the line as N.
Step 4: Using a straightedge, join point M and point N. Part A: Which is the first incorrect step? Part B: Using complete sentences, explain your answer for Part A. Part C: Explain why a compass works for the construction done by Brandon.
can someone plz help i have a homework problem
@ganeshie8
how do i do this? there isn't a picture? i always had pictures for these kinds of problems but now i don't :(
I'm here
do u guys think u can help me?
@littlekitty16
Look at this construction : http://www.mathopenref.com/constperplinepoint.html
click RUN
ok
i did
good, does that help ?
how would i prove that a step is incorrect
this is the incorrect step : `Step 1: Using the same compass width draw two more arcs from point C, one above and the other below the line.`
Correct Step 1 : Increase the compass width to more than half and draw two more arcs from point A, one above and the other below the line.
what am i supposed to put for the compass
what do you think
Compass is a tool for drawing arcs and Straight edge is a tool for drawing segments. He needs to use compass because the construction involved several arcs.
You may add if you want to above ^
i was about to add that comment from above
oh ok
good :)
