The classic example of classical conditioning is Pavlov's dog. In this example, Pavlov noticed that his dog would salivate whenever food was presented. The food was the unconditioned stimulus, and the salivation by the dog was the unconditioned response. What Pavlov decided to do was to ring a bell whenever he presented food to the dog, which would make him salivate still because there was food. However, after many trials of this, the dog began to salivate just at the sound of the bell due to the fact that the dog believed that it would follow with food, so he was conditioned to salivate at the sound of the bell. Due to this, the bell became the conditioned stimulus, and the dog salivating at the sound of the bell became the conditioned response. Hopefully that helps!
