Regular pentagon A B C D E is similar to M N O P Q. If line segment A B equals 2 centimeters and line segment O P equals 8 centimeters, what is the scale factor between A B C D E and M N O P Q? zero point five 2 4 not enough information

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Regular shapes all have the same side lengths, so a regular pentagon will have 5 sides, all of same length. So that means if AB is 2cm, then BC, CD, DE, EA are all 2cm as well. The same thing can be applied to the other pentagon with side length 8cm, correct?

yea so it would be d corect? @cormacpayne

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So let's see what we have, we now have a pentagon that has side lengths of 2cm, and another with side lengths of 8cm, correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there any number you can multiply the side lengths of the 2cm pentagon to make it into the 8cm pentagon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the scale factor?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the scale factor is 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct, the scale factor is what you would multiply the smaller pentagon by to make the larger pentagon. So now if you wanted to go from 2cm side lengths to 8cm side lengths, what number would you multiply the 2m pentagon by to get there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh so its 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly!
