What does the maximum value of a parabola represent?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the vertex in this case it is the maximum vertex

OpenStudy (amistre64):

depends on the parabola

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The highest point (vertex) is at (120,3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And crosses the x axis at 0 and 6

OpenStudy (amistre64):

unless the parabola is modeling an event, then there is no good answer to what the max value of the parabola represents.

THe question says, a company's profit depending on the price of pens.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

oh, then it represents the maximinum ______ of the company. if they sell x amount of pens, then they can make a maximum of _______ .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The maximum profit the company makes? I dont understand why it is a parabola though.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

depending on the cost to revenue structure of a company, the amount of profit they can make takes in many factors.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

spose we have revenue as: r = px for a given price the cost to produce an item is generally given as c = f + vx for some fixed and variable cost. but these are simplistic models at best.
