Based on the character of the Wife of Bath and her tale, what do you think was Chaucer’s perspective on the state of women and their condition? Women were smart and worthy of the same authority as men. Women needed to set an example of piousness for men. Women were angelic creatures who could not harbor lust or vice. Women were too often victims of abuses by their husbands.

http://www.universalteacher.org.uk/poetry/wifebath.htm Honestly when I read the tale years ago I believed him to have the perspective that women were too often the victims of abuses by their husbands. When I glanced over the above link I provided I still hold to this thought. You should review ii for yourself and see what you arrive at for your own thoughts on the subject. :-)
