If I have 5x+y=3 and y=-2x I have to use substitution to solve the linear equation. Once I substitute -2x for y in the first equation, would the addition sign be replaced with the subtraction sign in (-2x) ? Or would you use parenthesis to separate them?

So would it be 5x-2x=3 or 5x+(-2x)=3?

u would put peren then add to 3x and then u solve

Which equation would I use though?
