Medal for best answer.....! When the peel of colocasia is removed, it causes itching to the skin... Why does this happen (itching the skin of the hand)..?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

because they have Calcium oxalate crystals in their tissues . When they come in contact with sensitive part of the body such as skin , they cause itching sensation. Even in the throat it is the same effect . \(\bigstar\)Raphides ( http://prntscr.com/3uzamm) are needle-shaped crystals of calcium carbonate or calcium oxalate found in specialized plant cells called idioblasts. \(\bigstar\) It is believed that the raphides are a defense mechanism against plant predators, as they are likely to tear the soft tissues of the throat or esophagus of a plant predator chewing on the plant's leaves. \(\bigstar\) It's suggested to take acidic drinks like sour curd etc as a remedy because acid dissolves the crystals.

Try this if the above doesn't works http://prntscr.com/3uzbsb
