Light is a Transverse wave but it can travel through gases. So can transverse waves travel through gases

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, transverse waves can travel through gases.

OpenStudy (asbhardwaj18):

transverse waves need no medium , unlike mechanical waves transverse wave can also travel in vacuum .

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup they can travel through gases

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What about water waves are they not mechanical and transverse waves?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@gleem Transverse waves may be mechanical or non-mechanical (e.g electromagnetic waves ). In case of mechanical waves, they cannot propagate in vacuum but electromagnetic waves may propagate in media (depending on the refractive index of medium with respect to that wave) in addition they can travel through vacuum.
