y-5x=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What are you solving for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you're solving for y, then isolate it. y = 5x Which means y is 1/5th of x. If you're solving for x, then isolate it. 5x = y x = y / 5 Which means that x is 5 times larger than y.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@jcpd910 : Better check that "x is 5 times larger than y." I think not. @lewpiper7885: Please include the directions that usually come with each problem. In this case, you might want to type, "solve y-5x=0 for x,": OR "solve y-5x for y." Which do you mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oops, thanks for catching that @mathmale it takes 1 x to = 1/5 y, so y is five times larger, and x is one fifth of y.
