The length of a pool is 3 feet more than twice its width. If the perimeter of the pool is 72 feet, find the dimensions of the pool by writing and solving a system of equations.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let length = x Let width = y x - 3 = 2y 2x + 2y = 72

OpenStudy (anonymous):

length (x) is 3 feet more than twice the width (y). Therefore 3 feet less on the length is equal to twice the width. That is how I got the first equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The second is the perimeter. So the perimeter is the width and the length twice.
