Could someone help me some trinomial addition?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I figured out the thing but went back to check on it and got stuck on 8x^2 plus - x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I had 8x^2 but I think I'm missing a rule

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[8x ^{2}+(-x ^{2})=8x ^{2}-x ^{2}=7x ^{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the variable just stays the same? I thought it would be 0 or 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

treat the x^2 as an apple. Basically it is 8 apples take away 1 apple, so you are left with 7 apples.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So i ignore the variable since im not multiplying
