difference rosetr and set builder form

OpenStudy (marissalovescats):

Hi welcome to OpenStudy! Is there a way you can post your problem so that we are able to understand better what you're asking?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

roster form is basically listing out EVERY member of the set example: listing every US senator {person1, person2, person3, etc etc...} think of it as roll call and everything is included. You can see that this kind of thing generates pretty large sets sometimes. ------------------------------------------------------- set builder form is condensing roster form into a more manageable form. Instead of listing every single member (all 100 senators for instance), you just list the rules to be in the set in the above example, the rule is "you must be a US senator to be in the set" you may write that as S = {x | x is a senator} that basically says "S is the set of all people x such that x is a senator"

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

another example roster form {2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12} set builder {x| x is an even number between 2 and 12} = {x| 2 <= x <= 12, x is even} there are multiple ways to write a set in set builder notation sometimes
