OpenStudy (abhisar):

Do u know what is weathering ?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Weathering is the breaking down of rocks, soil and minerals

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Water percolates into cracks in a rock. Then as the temperature drops (perhaps overnight), the water turns to ice. The crystallization process causes the water to expand as the ice crystals develop. Tens of thousands of pounds of pressure are created as the ice forms. This force causes the crack in the rock to expand, thus breaking the rock into smaller pieces.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

This type of mechanical weathering by water is called as frost (or ice) wedging.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

got it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you and yes i get it now
