OpenStudy (beccab003):

Can someone please check my answer? It is an easy question. I have done the problem but came up with a different answer. I will medal the person with the best answer. Thanks! Look at the image along with the problem. Use the following diagram to answer the next two questions: If LMN ~ PQR and PQR has a perimeter of 112 units, calculate the perimeter of LMN. 286.72 179.2 43.75 70 If LMN ~ PQR, calculate the value of h shown. 21 9 3/8 24 32

You said :"check" , what is your answer?

OpenStudy (beccab003):

For the first answer I got 70 but that can't be right. I used the height instead of the side. The second one I don't know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first one is ok. I got it too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You check online or you "think" that it is not correct?

OpenStudy (beccab003):

I think it is not correct because of the fact that when I did the problem I used the height and not the side of the shape to find the perimeter. I just don't know how to find the side. I did not look online.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh boy!!! you are correct!! let me show you how to do

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I use S for small triangle, and B for bigger one, ok?

OpenStudy (beccab003):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since they are similar, then the ratio between them applied for all (sides, area, perimeter, height...) ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at the sides MN and QR the ratio is \(\dfrac{MN}{QR}=\dfrac{S}{B}=\dfrac{5}{8}\) got me so far??

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Yes. Do you want me to just show you how I got my answer? just to make sure it lines up with yours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me finish the stuff first,

OpenStudy (beccab003):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does it mean? Well, it means S = \(\dfrac{5}{8}B\) or \(B=\dfrac{8}{5} S\) the small image = 5/8 the big one, or the big one = 8/5 the small one from that!!! to find the perimeter of the small one, we just take 5/8 the big one = 5/8*112=70 do the same with the height, but use the other formula big one = 8/5 small one the height of the small one is 15, then the height of the big one = 8/5*15= 24 Very simple

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Okay I did something similar to that but I wasn't sure because I used the height instead of the side and then added up the sides and height. Thank.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I count my finger on doing math. It may not look professional and it is not wrong. hihihi.. That's it.

OpenStudy (beccab003):

Thanks! What about the second question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

read my post above, I give you the answer there
