OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

Which of the following is NOT one of the four factors that play a role in growth rate? a. immigration b. death rate c. emigration d. demography e. birth rate

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

@mrdoldum

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Which do you think it is? Why or why not? It would be easier to tutor you if you explained what about the question is giving you trouble.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i dont really get how immigration has anything to do with growth of something that isnt population

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

death rate - well thats just an oxymoron

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

emigration - i dont even know what that is

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

demography - is the study of populations i remember from high school geography classes

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

and birth rate ......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PRAETORIAN.10 Well, rates (in this case) are the "speed" of something measured against a set period. So, to have a rate be the sum of four factors means that all the factors must be rates. Help?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Growth in a population = No of live births + No of immigrants - (No of deaths + No of emmigrants)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PRAETORIAN.10 How about this, immigration is to implosion as emigration is to explosion.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

pretend you are Spoc guy from starship whatever and i am just a common idiot student

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

okay @mrdoldum i get your final statement

OpenStudy (abhisar):

\(\color{blue}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @Abhisar Growth in a population = No of live births + No of immigrants - (No of deaths + No of emmigrants) \(\color{blue}{\text{End of Quote}}\) Can you now guess the correct answer ?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

demography

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

because you listed all of the options except it specifically

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

but you just said immigration implodes as in goes in on itself

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Immigration = import, emmigration = export

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@abhisar, Just to be more technically correct (the best kind of correct), your formula would be - No of deaths. BTW, just in case you don't know the reference, that bit of the correct thing is from Futurama.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

???

OpenStudy (abhisar):

i have written the same

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i think you guys level of intelligence is somewhere up in the clouds and thats why i dont get anything youre saying 'cause i'm just human on earth

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

okay back to the question

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

immigration does play a role in growth rate because more immigrant organisms boost the overall population, no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PRAETORIAN.10 @Abhisar I just wanted to make sure he knew I was making a joke and not really meany anything by it. It was a reference to an off the air cartoon show.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

@mrdoldum hey buddy as long as you dumb down your words 10 notches you can make as many jokes as you want

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i've got no issue with jokes

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

you probs think im a bit of a joke

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

@mrdoldum kill my options down to two and we'll go from there cause you clearly know your business

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i still think demography because its generalistic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@PRAETORIAN.10 Well, to find growth rate you have to know other rates. That means that growth rate is the sum of other rates. So, if something is not a rate it can automatically be excluded from a part of growth rate.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

demography isnt a rate.....
