Find the mean and standard deviation for the data set of the number of elevator stops for several rides. Round your answers to the nearest tenth. Enter your answers separated by commas; example: 2.3, 7.5. {0, 3, 1, 1, 0, 5, 1, 0, 3, 0}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How would you find the mean of this data set?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i calculated the mean to be 1.4 @cormacpaynee

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Total Numbers: 10 Mean (Average): 1.4 Standard deviation: 1.727 Variance(Standard deviation): 2.93~ Population Standard deviation: 1.62481 Variance(Population Standard deviation): 2.64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would you mind just checking that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay great! Now all you have to do is use the standard deviation formula: \[\sqrt{\sum_{i = 1}^{N}\frac{ (x_{i} - \mu)^{2} }{ N - 1}}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So since this is just a sample and not the population, you would ignore the population standard deviation given, and use just the plain standard deviation of 1.727

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm its weird when i put that into the school website is says im wrong ):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im putting in 1.4,1.727

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.4,1.7 didn't work either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im gonna cry iv been working on this all day ;-; lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I ran it on my calculator and got Sx = 1.7127

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try that number ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk 1 sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope still no dice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im not sure what im doing wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure either, 1.4, 1.7127 should be the answer for the mean and standard deviation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And you said 1.4, 1.7 did not work? They want it to the nearest tenth.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea it didn't work either

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's really odd, because that should be the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-bangs head on keyboard-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is there anything in the question given to you that we might be missing out on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if i knew how to past screen shots id show you what im looking at

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe try 1.4, 1.6 just to give the other standard deviation a shot

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kk

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dudee you got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sweeeeeeeeeet

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Population Standard deviation: 1.62481 <3333 thanks so much
