4 1/9 +4 3/5

well what si the first thing you are suppose to do with fractions??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you want me to explain it to you??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok first you have the equation 4 1/9 + 4 3/5. well you must change it into a improper fraction 37/9 + 20/5. then you must have the gcf (greatest common factor). 185/45 + 180/45 then you add 365/45 = 8 4/45 or 8 1/9

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

4 1/9 + 4 3/5 = 4 + 1/9 + 4 + 3/5 = 4 + 4 + 1/9 + 3/5 = 8 + 1/9 + 3/5 = 8 + (5*1)/(5*9) +(9*3)/(9*5 ) = 8 + 5/45 +27/45 = 8 + (5+27)/45 = 8 + 32/45 = 8 32/45

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

@FriedRice , your method is sound, but you made an error with that second improper fraction 4 3/5 = (4*5 + 3)/5 = 23/5 (whereas you got 20/5)

ohhh crap sorry man ill try well next time.
