Find the lateral area for the regular pyramid.
ill post the picture hold up
Okay so, lateral area of a regular pyramid is: LA = 1/2(P)(l) Where the P is perimeter of base and l is that height
got it!
So in this picture, the base is a square with each side of 2. So what would the perimeter be of the base?
8?
Good. Also I meant the L stands for slant height, not the actual height. So so far we have: LA = 1/2(8)(L) What's the slant height in this picture?
o its ok! umm 3?
o umm 2?
We have to find the slant height here actually
Notice how there is a triangle in there? Are real height is 3 and the base of that triangle would be 1 because it goes to the middle of a square where each side is 2? It's a right triangle so we'd to Pythagorean to find the hypotenuse (AKA slant height)

oooo i get it ok! wats the formula to find the hypotenuse?
a^2+b^2=c^2 where a and b are the other sides and c is the hypotenuse
ok so lets both do it an see wat we get
Okay I have the answer in my mind
10?
Almost, 10=c^2 so c=sqrt(10)
so my answer would be 2 square root 10?
So the hypotenuse is the sqrt(10) which is about 3.16 So now we have: LA = 1/2(8)(3.16)
Or LA = 1/2(8)(sqrt(10))
o ok got it so my answer would be 4square root 10?
Yes or it could be 12.65 depending on how they want it
they want it in sqaure root omg i owe u! ur such a help! now it wants the total are of the same pyramid
It wants the total Surface Area of the same figure?
ya well it just says T.A.=
TA = LA + B Where B is the area of the base
so 4 square root 10 + 4?
Yup! Which is 8 sqrt(10)
omg thank u!! ok imma post another question!
Alrighty!
