a relation is only a function when each x value is paired with exactly one y value
in other words, each input produces exactly one output
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
so for instance
if x = 2 lead to y = 3, y = 4 at the same time, then you don't have a function. It needs to lead to exactly one y value.

I thin its c..
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what's unique to C that isn't found anywhere else
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it goes in order both forwards and backwards, te others do not..
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what do you notice about the x values?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
notice how there are repeated x values in choices A, B, D
but that's not the case in choice C
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh..it leads directly to the other number

those repeated x values mean you won't have a function (it means x maps to more than one y output)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so c is correct ?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
correct
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
it has nothing to do with order
just with those repeated x values
