My computer can hold 8GB ram;
My question is can I buy 4x2 Sticks of any ram? Or do I need computer specific RAM.

ram must be compatible with ur motherboard specification. such as must be ddr,ddr2,ddr3 and how much mhz it can handle.

If you're looking at 8GB max, and you're forced to use 2GB sticks, once you get the price for the memory, seriously consider replacing the computer. The cost difference may be minute.
