we want to get all the x terms on one side and everything else on the other side. 6x - 2 = 3x + 19 --- subtract 3x from both sides 6x - 3x - 2 = 3x - 3x + 19 -- combine like terms 3x - 2 = 19 -- add 2 to both sides 3x - 2 + 2 = 19 + 2 -- combine like terms 3x = 21 -- divide both sides by 3 3x/3 = 21/3 x = 7 check.. 6x - 2 = 3x + 19 6(7) - 2 = 3(7) + 19 42 - 2 = 21 + 19 40 = 40 (correct) x = 7 I have included all the steps, but if you still have questions, please ask
