The Louisiana purchase is when France sold it to us since Haiti got its independence  from the french the french saw that the Louisiana territory was useless and they needed money and a few years back the U.S. kept on offering to buy iy so they just decided to sell it to us. The Louisianan territory was from Texas to Canada (estimate so you can have an idea, because Texas belonged to Mexico)
