Difference's are that they serve different functions in the body , fat is used for energy and fat soluble nutrient storage , where steroids steroids effect neurotransmission .

Steroid hormones have a cyclopentanophenanthrene ring system substructure (atoms 1 through 17) whereas Lipids such as neutral fats and phospholipids are made up of the elements C, H, and O.
