how would I determine the sample space of 4 marbles that's red, green, yellow and orange if two were taken out with out replacement?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 2?

hartnn (hartnn):

for first marble, we can take anyone out of 4 marbles, so 4 choices, for 2nd marble, now we only have 3 marbles to choose from, so 3 choices. overall sample space = 4 * 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so what would the probability of selecting 1 orange ball?

hartnn (hartnn):

only 1 orange ball ?? means you have to select 1 ball from 4 balls, so the probability will be just 1/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what about a ball that is not orange?

hartnn (hartnn):

you want "the probability of selecting 1 orange ball" why would you bother about other balls ? you only need total number of balls. and number of orange balls

they are asking more than one ?
