Okay. Well my question is, What methods do scientists use to determine if change is chemical or physical?

A physical change could be manifested in a change in a measurable quantity like mass or length - basically some dimensional change. To observe the change, you would measure with an appropriate tool, like a scale or a ruler.

Not sure about chemical changes, I'm no chemist :)

Though I suppose you could measure change in salinity or pH, which is really just a measure of concentration of one substance or another.
