HELP SOS IM GOING TO FAIL I NEED HELP IN STEPS Part 1: Solve the inequality -5x + 8 less than or equal to x - 4 and show all of your work. You can use >= to represent the greater than or equal to symbol. Part 2: Use complete sentences to describe the graph of the solution from Part 1. Be sure to include the type of circle and which direction the shading will be.
Alright, show me your best guess. Try to do as much as you can, and don't worry about being right or wrong. The more wrong stuff I see, the more I understand how to help you understand.
okay i started by writing -5x + 8 less than or equal to x - 4 and i just don't know how to separate them to do the two parts you're supposed to like the compound inequality if i can split it to two two step equations i can do it I'm just not sure where to split it in half ):
would i start by adding 4 to each side?
\[\large -5x+8 \le x-4\] Yeah you're on the right track, you're trying to isolate the x from the rest of it. The only "kind of weird" rule is that if you divide by a negative number, then you reverse the direction of the less than or equal to sign to a greater than or equal to sign, or the other way around if it had been the other one originally. So write out what it will look like after you add 4 to both sides. =)
−5x+8≤x−4 +4 +4 -5x+12≤ x then what
Now you want to combine the x's right? So remember to keep everything the same on both sides, you just do the same thing to both sides. So what do you have to do to make -5x go away on the left side? Then make sure to do it to the other side to maintain the equality.
is the answer 2.4?
ans 2
