The Treaty restricted the size, type, armament and tonnage of the Navies of the UK, US, Japan, France and Italy with the US and the UK being allowed fleets of equal size and composition at 525,000 tons and 135,000 tons of aircrart carriers. France and Italy were allowed a much smaller fleet at 175,000 tons with 60,000 tons of aircraft carriers and Japan was restricted to 315,000 tons and 81,000 tons of aircraft carriers. In fact each nation began cheating on the agreement almost from the start and the treaty was not renewed in 1936.
