When you solve an equation, how do you know when to add and when to subtract? You may include an example if you need to.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you do the opposite of what the equation says.... here is a really simple method called backtracking.... it steps you through the equation... as an example the equation 2x + 5 = 13 pick a letter x, then multiply it by 2 add 5 to it and the answer is 13 now do the reverse start with 13 subtract 5 and then divide by 2 graphically it looks like |dw:1403641633506:dw|
