32 is 40 percent of what number

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

if 32 is the 40% what is the 100% of that? well \(\large \begin{array}{ccllll} amount&\% \\\hline\\ 32&40\\ x&100 \end{array}\implies \cfrac{32}{x}=\cfrac{40}{100}\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it says the answer is 80

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

well.. what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 12.8

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

hmm did you cross-multiply?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i just multiplied (32)(.40)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

32 * 0.4 will be the 40% of 32

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

and 12.8 is about right

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

you're looking for a number that's BIGGER than 32 32 is just the mere 40% of that number

OpenStudy (anonymous):
