well parenthesis come first of course out of the lowest level of operations. but because there are more operations performed within the parenthesis, those operations must be performed within the parentheses before you can move on. in this case you have to simplify the expression inside the parentheses before you can subtract anything from it all. which means you now have to look at everything inside the parentheses to determine which operation comes first. In this case you have multiplication, addition, and exponents. Exponents come first, then multiplication, then addition. Long story short, the exponent comes first because it is the highest order operator within the parentheses
