Okay, How come square root of negative 16 has no answer , when 5th root of negative 32 has a -2 answer? is there a rule for square roots that is not the same as other square roots such as 5th root ? , does the signs matter ? someone please, thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to use imaginary numbers when working with negative square roots. When working with odd roots such as 5th root you do not.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

even roots are have no proper inverse function

OpenStudy (yamyam70):

so is it safe to assume that every even index in radicals considering the use of negative numbers is imaginary and odd numbers is not ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

5th root is not a square root :/

OpenStudy (yamyam70):

so can I conclude that all answers with even index is imaginary (in operations with negative numbers)
