A carpenter is framing a wall that is 8 feet high and 15 feet long. If the carpenter wants to be sure that the sides of the wall meet at right angles, then what should the diagonal measurement of the wall be?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Have you tried sketching a diagram? A diagram is not essential here, but may be helpful to you as you figure out how to approach this problem. The "wall" forms (or should form) a rectangle of length 15 feet and height 8 feet. Mark those in your diagram. Then, draw in the hypotenuse. Which theorem from mathematics is a useful tool for finding the length of this diagonal?
