It is generally considered more healthy for an environment to have large numbers of species. .Many organism come to depend on others so when you lose one species, it could cause others to be lost. An example would be several trees in New Zealand required a giant extinct bird the moas to spread their seeds. They lost the trees because they lost the moas. .
