The neurotransmitter acetylcholine (Ach) diffuses from a motor neuron to a muscle fiber, producing an action potential in the fiber's cell membrane. What will happen next to continue the contraction process? The sarcoplasmic reticulum releases its stored calcium. Tropomyosin changes position on the actin filaments. ATP molecules bind to the myosin heads and hydrolyze. Calcium ions enter the sarcomere and attach to troponin.
