If you are looking to solve for X then you must try to get X by itself and in order to do so you must do the same to the left side of the equation as you do to the right. Since X is under a square root then you must do the "opposite" of the square root to eliminate it but it must also be done to both sides.

What will eliminate the square root?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

squaring both sides of the equation
