Which value is a solution to the inequality 3j < 18?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

divide both sides by 3 and what do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well like do u divide 18 by 3

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

3j/3 < 18/3 j < 6 so anything less then 6 is your solution understand ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay now i understand

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

solve them just like equations but remember one important rule...when dividing/multiplying by a negative number, the inequality sign changes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah okay thanks

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

for instance, if the problem was : -3j < 18 -- divide by -3 and change the sign j > -6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay now i understand thanks so much

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

sure thing :)
