2 1/2 / 1 1/4

\[2\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\div 1\frac{ 1 }{ 4}\] ?

An easy way to approach this is to change the mixed numbers into fractions alone. You would get \[\frac{ 5 }{ 2}\div \frac{ 5 }{ 4}\]

Then you simply "Keep it, Change it, Flip it." By this, I mean, keep the first fraction, change the division sign to multiplication and flip the second fraction. So, \[\frac{ 5 }{ 2 }\times \frac{ 4 }{ 5}\]

Now multiply across the numerators and multiply across the denominators. Your solution would be \[\frac{ 20 }{ 10}\] or 2
