Given the box plot, will the mean or the median provide a better description of the center? Picture attached will give medal and fan for step by step instruction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The mean, because the data distribution is symmetrical The mean, because the data distribution is skewed to the left The median, because the data distribution is skewed to the left The median, because the data distribution is skewed to the right

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

been years since I took stats. Sorry...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok thanks for looking though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the pic shows that the smallest point is 10 and the biggest is 15. everything in the middle is pretty much symmetrical, so I could say the first answer

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

There are no steps. You have to reason it out, based on your course materials. My first impression is, "Why do I care about the Mean? I have a box plot. The median is staring at me!" Second Impression, "Your course materials may tell you that symmetrical distributions are better described by the Mean."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok so the answer is a thank you all for the help ima give hen the medal because he helped me figure it out faster

Tkhunny you were also helpful so you get one too :D
