The launch of Sputnik I in 1957 was significant because it ignited the Space Race within the Cold War. Before then, no country in the world had satellites orbiting Earth; with both Russia and USA competing for this title, USA was sent into a panic when Russia achieved this. The launch of Sputnik I showed USA that Russia was more technologically advanced, which was scary due to the fact that relations between the two countries were very tense. Although only one launch, it was a world first that brought in new political, technological, military and scientific developments, and marked the start of the Space Age.
can you help me with a few more?
