7x-y+z=-8 3x+2y-3z=19 x-3y+2z=-21

OpenStudy (aric200):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is a system of equations problem

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Are you working on Gaussian elimination?

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

You could solve using a matrix?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

There is Cramer's rule, but not too many people use it for 3x3 unless we have a sparse system.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i tried the matrix but its giving me the correct answer, its always in fraction form and i need a solution set

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i used the cramers rule too.. its just franctions

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The solution set contains only integers.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

What did you get for the determinants?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

56/19,-47/19,-146/19

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I get 37 for Delta (the denominator) Can you check if you had typo?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

I have for Delta [7,-1,1] [3,2,-3] [1,-3,2] and the determinant is 37. Would you like to post yours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i must have because i didnt get any of those numbers

OpenStudy (mathmate):

To get the denominator, the matrix is a transcription of the coefficient of the LHS of the system of equations.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

and the matrices D1,D2 D3 are successively the replacement of the first, second and third column by the vector on the RHS.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The solution set is then {D1/D, D2/D, D3/D} where D, D1,D2,D3 are the determinants of the matrices.
