What is the solution of the system defined by y = -x + 5 and 5x + 2y = 14?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the solution is the numbers that x and y represent such that both equations hold true. to do this, replace one of the variables by plugging the first equation into the second one: 5x + 2(-x + 5) = 14 solve for x. then plug x back into either equation to get the value of y

thanks

happy to help. let me know if you want to double check your answer ^_^

weight how to get y agin

OpenStudy (anonymous):

once you solve for x. plug it into either equation (they both give the same answer) to solve for y lets assume x is PI you can obtain y with the first equation (or second) y = -(PI) + 5 = 1.86
