Draw out a number line. Then plot a point at -65 (this is 65 spaces to the left of 0). Once you get to -65, you would then go 41 spaces to the right to visually show that you are adding positive 41. After counting 41 spaces, the number you land on will be the answer.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

let's use a smaller example say we want to do -3 + (+5)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

draw out a number line |dw:1403825691654:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

then plot -3 on it |dw:1403825751267:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

notice how we're 3 units to the left of 0 |dw:1403825767782:dw|
