Indicate in standard form the equation of the line passing through the given point and having the given slope. E(3, 5), m = undefined

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

since the slope i undefined it makes the equation of the line easier all undefined slopes are straight lines starting with x=

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

where does the straight line cross the x axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so @acxbox22 was correct in saying that all lines with undefined slopes have the equation form of x = a where a is some number \(a \in \mathbb{R}\). so we just need to figure out what value a takes on. are you given a point through which the lines passes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also, for undefined slopes, it's like saying "no matter what y is, x is always _____" and the blank is a in the equation x = a. so for example, if a line has an undefined slope and goes through the point (2, 1), "no matter what y is, x is always 2". so why 2? that's the x value of a point on the line and so x must always be 2. another point on that line would be (2, -5) and a nother would be (2, 900), etc. put any value in for y but keep x at 2. you can check the slope and see that the top number would be non-zero and the bottom would be exactly 0, giving you an undefined slope.
