Why is the triangle preferred over other types of polygons?

I would assume because of how diverse they are and how they can be used in the sense of figuring out other polygons.

triangles have many special properties that other polygons do not to name a few: pythagorean theorum for right triangles herons formula,and triangles lead to another field of math called trignometry

If we're on the topic of trigonometry, special right triangles are what gives us the points on the Unit Circle.
