You could perhaps make more sense of this problem if you'd write it as \[\tan x=\frac{ 2 }{ 1 }.\] The tangent function is defined as the ratio of the "opposite side" of a right triangle to the "adjacent side." I'd suggest you draw this situation, showing that the opp side (2) is twice as long as the adj side (1). From this point, how would you find the size / measure of the angle?
