How do you solve this equation for a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x/a+y/b+z/c\]

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

incomplete question. What does the equation equal to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to manipulate the equation to solve for the a variable...

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, but it needs to be an EQUATion first, so it'd need to EQUATE something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It equals 1. Sorry

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

I think you meant for the question to be \[\large \frac{x}{a} + \frac{y}{b}+\frac{z}{c} = 1\]

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

Ah ha!

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

In that case... find an LCD between \(a ,\ b,\ c\) \[\frac{x(bc)}{abc}+ \frac{y(ac)}{abc} + \frac{z(ab)}{abc}= \frac{abc}{abc} \] you can get rid of the denominator since it's common on both sides.\[\ x(bc) + y(ac) + z(ab) = abc\] Can you go on from here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes!! Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (jhannybean):

And thank you :D
