it looks like simple substitution #1) 1 + 0.5(2 - 1)p + 2( 1-p) so you can distribute and collect like terms 1 + 0.5p + 2 - 2p will result in 3 - 1.5p the same process is needed for #2 hope it helps

well #2 1 + 0.5*2( 1 - p) = 1 + 1(1 - p) which is 1 + 1 - p or 2 - p
