Solve for y -1 + (y/8) < 15

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

fractions can be a little confusing. Try multiplying the entire inequality by 8 -1 (8) + (y/8)(8) < 15 (8) -8 + y < 120 are you with me so far ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I'm with you

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

to get rid of the fraction, you have to multiply by the common denominator

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

-8 + y < 120 -- add 8 to both sides y < 120 + 8 y < 128 or it can be done this way.. -1 + y/8 < 15 -- add 1 to both sides y/8 < 16 -- now multiply by 8 y < 128

thanks once again (:

OpenStudy (texaschic101):
